The end of that adventure
Susan began to get tired, lethargic. Not enough energy.
It was in July. A party of local dignitaries arrived to view the installation of the new turbine, the culmination of the project so far.
Where was Susan's welcome - the usual delightful meal and fulsome compliments for the visitors? The meal was dull, the welcome lacklustre. This special day seemed suddenly ordinary, even pointless.
The visitors left quietly with no praise for Jack and his work.
Susan could see that Jack was disappointed. She was disappointed herself - this adventure had turned to misery.
From then on she felt herself unhappy about fitting in to Jack's life, and was bored indeed of her own adventure. The school, the hens, the vegetables garden now seemed like a waste of time. There was war nearby and their home in the forest clearing was losing its magic.
Some days later they went down together to the capital, stopping on the long journey to see their friend the doctor at the mission hospital.
