Coaching & Mentoring - introduction
What's the difference between coaching and mentoring? As I see it, coaching is used for day to day issues and short-term development including goal-setting and commitment to action. Mentoring on the other hand is about longer term considerations and wider views of a career or the organisation. A mentor is someone who sees "the bigger picture" and helps the mentee to do so.
(These differences and definitions are discussed further on the Coaching and Mentoring Network )
In either case, the value is in the 1:1 work, with the client getting good quality attention from the coach or mentor. They also have a valuable space to work things out for themselves with the support of an experienced and skilled person.
