What does the day hold?
- A day for organising and thinking ahead?
- A crowded busy day?
- A day for reflection and learning?
- A good day doing things i like?
- A day of uncertainty and confusion?
A day for organising and thinking ahead?
What clutter do you need to get rid of to get things streamlined?
Do you need to plan for short-term things only, or would thinking long term also be useful?
Getting organised and getting a plan work best when you have a picture of how things will recognisably be when it's working. Get as much detail as you can into your picture:
- "when I'm organised and when the plan is working, what will I be doing?
- "what will be around me?"
- who will be there and what will they be doing or saying?"
Notice anything that might get in the way, and find ways of dealing with them.
A crowded busy day?
Lots of people to see, meetings to go to? People needing advice or instructions? Some difficult relationships?
Will you give yourself time between meetings to collect yourself?
Look out of the window; relax and breathe deeply for a moment or two.
It's important to refresh your own sense of well-being on a day like this.
It's also important to come new, as far as you can, to each person.
- Alert your intuition as well as your brain to see behind the face and the way they present themselves.
- Who is this person? Who am I to them?
- What are we trying to do as people?
Give yourself time at the end of the day to review and recoup.
A day for reflection and learning?
A day that you have set aside for reflection. A space to catch up with your life, and notice where you are. A pause to look around, back, ahead.
Let this day be well-paced. Avoid pushing yourself but keep the flow going. Go deeper into yourself than you do on other days, but peacefully. This is not a project. You may like to ask yourself questions as themes, not looking directly for answers: What am I doing? What do I want? what is it like to be me? Pass the different aspects of your life through your mind: work, creativity, relationships, inspiration and priorities. Where are love, grief, achievement, delight present in your life?
A good day doing things i like?
A day where you feel true to yourself, at ease with yourself. Where how you are is as important as what you do. You feel in tune with what you're doing, and what you are doing does you good.
Relish this day. Notice what makes it so good. How does it feel, taste, look, a day like this? Remember other days like this - what it was made them good. What kind of a person are you on a day like today?
A day of uncertainty and confusion?
A day where you're not sure what's happening. Different and conflicting priorities. No way of getting a clear good result. Too much to do.
How will you stay grounded and true to yourself? How will you avoid the worst in yourself being triggered? On a day like this you need all the help you can get to stay on track and keep a sense of proportion. You might check yourself for fearful thinking; a day like this is a breeding ground for fuzzy fears. A day like this can also be a good sign that you're in a transition, moving into uncertainty and ambiguity. Once you realise this, and realise that the skill is in managing the discomfort rather than suffering it or avoiding it, it gets easier. Look after yourself with the right food, enough sleep if you can. Moments of visualisation or relaxation are hard to get on a day like today but worth trying for. Humour can save you on a day like today.
